Avoiding Press Overflow in Hummingbird

If you're just getting into using a real juice press instead of other methods, you may run into an issue where you attempt to press too much, or the recipe is too "mushy" to press correctly. This can cause the press to overflow. Don't worry! hummingbird has a press overflow detection feature which is a sensor that pauses the press if it senses an overflow event, instead of making a mess on your counter.

Avoiding Press Overflow

For starters, we recommend using smaller batch sizes when getting a feel for the juicer's limits. Limit the batches to 2 lbs on Hummingbird Pro, and 4 lbs on Hummingbird Pro XL. One you get comfortable on the juicer, you can increase to the max.

Additionally, it's important to keep in mind that "mushy" items like pineapple and citrus need more room to expand for juice extraction than for fibrous items like root vegetables or greens. So, if your recipe includes much of the "mushy" items, we recommend a smaller batch size. We have an in-depth article about this on our blog.
